Our Story

Even though Maddie might hate to admit it, Kayleigh and Maddie’s love story is one straight out of a super-cliche queer romance novel that would probably be tagged #friendstolovers.

Fresh into college at Ohio University in 2016 and searching for friends, Kayleigh invited herself to join the cafeteria table of one Maddie and another friend, and they all quickly discovered that they were not only all Media majors, but also neighbors in Washington Hall. In fact, Maddie and Kayleigh had already attended a game developers’ club meeting together unintentionally. Quickly bonding over shows, fanfiction, and anything in the general nerdom sphere, a deep friendship was born that would mean years of movie nights, theme parties, and late night talks on anything and everything (and yes, that includes casting everybody in their friend group as characters of All Hail King Julian, the classic Madagascar spin-off cartoon).

Only late in college would the friendship change into something different. One could say picking costumes separately for a Star Wars birthday party Senior year and unintentionally dressing up as iconic couple Han and Leia sealed their fate. One summer day after college, they took a step forward together as not just friends, but partners, and the rest was history. Together in Raleigh, they built a life with their little cat-shaped demon Parizval filled with antique hauls, book swaps, and trips to visit family and friends.

On one of those trips to Kelleys Island, Kayleigh and Maddie took a rather treacherous hike filled with mud puddles and stone-hopping to Scheele Preserve. Thankfully, the rain had passed just in time, and they were able to search the beach for sea glass and lucky stones. The tide was high, so the finds were sparse, but neither would walk away empty-handed. There, Kayleigh proposed with a glass box, and in a move that would surprise absolutely no one that knew her, Maddie whipped out her own ring box for Kayleigh.

A decade in the making, this wedding is a testament to years of friendship and love, platonic and otherwise, and Maddie and Kayleigh are so excited to celebrate with you!
